It is one of the most important tournament of school calendar in UAE which draws a large number of teams from all corners of the country.
Our Own English Sharjah celebrated Silver Jubilee last year with much fanfare and the event was won by Westminster School.
The clinic of the tournament was conducted recently at the Boys’ Branch in Sharjah. Sports teachers of all the participating schools took part in the clinic and shared views to make the event more popular and transparent.
In his introductory words, the Principal Thomas Mathew reiterated the stand that the main theme of this soccer tournament is unity and team spirit.
“We want to inculcate high values in the youngsters to make them responsible citizens of the world.
“We are proud to organise this wonderful tournament and hope all the teams will set new standards in school football this year.” This is one of the most awaited event among the football lovers of different schools in the UAE. The school has decided to fire up the event with its opening ceremony on the October 28.
Matches are scheduled to commence from October 30 and will go on until the grand finale which will take place on November 9 at 3.30pm.
All the matches will be played at the Sharjah Wanderer’s Club grounds.
This year’s tourney will be staged on league-cum-knockout basis.
Sixteen teams have been selected to participate in the event. The schools have been divided into four pools.
Pool A: St. Marys Catholic High School, Dubai/ Our Own English High School, Fujairah/ Sharjah Indian School, Sharjah/ The Indian High School, Dubai.
Pool B: Crescent English High School, Dubai/ DPS, Sharjah/ Our Own English High School, Sharjah/ Our Own English High School, Al Ain.
Pool C: Our own High School, Al Warqa’a/ Our own Indian School, Dubai/ The Winchester School, Dubai/ Dubai Modern High School, Dubai.
Pool D: The Westminster School, Dubai/ The Millennium School, Dubai/ The Oxford School, Dubai/ NIMS, Sharjah.
