The tournament is organised by Young Talents Cricket Academy, under the auspices of Abu Dhabi Cricket Council. Batting first, Preston amassed a huge total of 230 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Owais, who has been trained by Shahzad Altaf at YTCA since 1999 and has toured to the UK with the academy, displayed sheer aggression as he plundered five huge sixers and three boundaries on way to scoring 51 runs off just 19 balls.
Owais added to the oppositions woes after a fine second wicket partnership of 113 runs between Shoaib Sarwar and Mohammed Zaman. Shoaib hit 61 off 36 balls while Mohammed scored 48 off 31 balls.
Irfan Sajjad and Nuhman Mirza, both claimed a couple of wickets for Cambridge University.
In reply, Owais excelled with the ball too as he demolished the Cambridge middle-order by talking three wickets in an over. Owais sent back Nuhman Mirza, Ahmed Khan and Sarem Iqbal without disturbing the scorers as Cambridge crashed to 49 for nine wickets in 11.3 overs. Shoaib also did his bit as he took two wickets for 11 runs from four overs.
In the other Challenger Cup match, fine knocks by Amarjeet Singh and Varun Deshwal helped Institute of Management Technology (IMT) beat Canadian University of Dubai by 72 runs.
IMT scored 182 runs for one wicket in 20 overs and then restricted Canadian University to 110 all out in 13.4 overs.
Amarjeet, who retired hurt after scoring 68 runs, hit 10 boundaries in his 51-ball knock while Varun’s 50 runs off 55 balls was studded with one sixer and four hits to the fence.
