SCC Academy teams to play in England

SHARJAH — Members of the Sharjah Cricket Council Academy teams will be participating in a series of friendly matches during their tour of England that begins from August 11, a press release said.

The teams, comprising under-12, and under-14 players, who departed on Tuesday from Dubai and will return home on August 19. During their tour, the teams will play all their matches against top English clubs in and around London.

One of the major highpoints of the tour is their visit to Lord’s cricket ground on August 14.

“The very intension behind organising this tour is to expose the young boys to a good level of cricket,” said Mazhar Khan of the Sharjah Cricket Council.

“I am sure the boys will return home with some fond memories of the tour. England, as we all know, have a very good academies and playing against their teams will be a great experience, something they will savour for a long time in particular their visit to the Lord’s.

“We have arranged matches in Surrey, Earlsfield, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire so that the boys get a chance to play in different grounds. The weather there is pretty good for cricket and it will be interesting to see of our teams face the swing and seam bowling.

We, at the Sharjah Cricket Council, are committed to creating healthy playing opportunities for all level of teams and the tour of England is a part our drive to keep the momentum rolling,” he said.

Three officials will accompany the teams which consist of 22 boys.
