Shahid fires Manal to victory over Warriors

SHARJAH - Shahid Farooq slammed a stunning half-century in just 15 balls to power Al Manal Group to a convincing 67-run victory over Dubai Warriors in the fifth Al Dhaid Cricket Village Tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, at Al Dhaid Cricket Village.

Farooq, who was eventually out for 61 off 17 balls, blasted five fours and six sixes in his blistering innings. His breezy knock helped Al Manal Group, batting first, pile up a massive 249 for six in 20 overs.

Baber (66 off 37 balls) and Shehzad Hussain (64 off 35 balls) were the other main scorers.

Dubai Warriors, in reply, were bowled out for 165 in the 19^th overs. Only Waqas Shabir (40), Figo (34) and Nabil (28) offered some worthwhile resistance to the disciplined Al Manal Group attack.

In other matches, Farooq CC had a mixed luck. They defeated Afridi CC by eight wickets, but lost to Gyan Steel by six wickets.

Gyan Steel built their victory on a fine all-round performance by Harris Khan. The talented all-rounder first snared two wickets for 36 runs and then slammed a brisk 60 off just 28 balls to suffocate Farooq CC hopes of making a comeback.

Farooq CC, batting first, scored 147 for six with Abdullah Hanif (52 not out off 37 balls) and Waqas Khan (43 off 29 balls) doing bulk of the scoring.

Gyan Steel, in reply, raced to the competitive victory target in 14.4 overs. Amjad (50 off 32) was the other major scorer.

Farooq CC, however, enjoyed a comfortable sailing against Afridi Cricket Club.

They restricted their opponents to 149 and then achieved the competitive target in 16.5 overs. Waqas Khan top-scored with 61 off 40 balls.
