“Our boys are really raring to go. We are confident of putting up a good show in the World Cup. We are in the same pool with Australia and Pakistan, but we are sure of performing well,” Shakib said.
The 24-year-old is in UAE to participate in the PCL Twenty20 Bashundhara Cup which is being played in the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. “We have been playing a lot of cricket in the recent months and everybody is in good shape,” the skipper added.
Noting that the PCL Twenty20 would help them prepare for the big event, Shakib said: “It’s a great experience for the boys. It’s really important for us to put up a good show here. This tournament will give the boys, who have been picked up for the World Cup, a chance to get a feel of how the Twenty20 format will be and I’m sure they will pick it up fast and perform well in the West Indies,” he added.
Bangladesh lost all their matches that included two Tests and three ODIs against England recently but, Shakib felt that results don’t reveal the truth. “We played some real good cricket and gave them some hard time. We are still improving and the best part is we are improving very quickly.”
Bangladesh batting has been very consistent in the recent months but bowling has been a worry but Shakib insisted that his bowlers were performing well. “Most of the games we played has been on flat tracks. So it’s been tough for the bowlers to perform well. But our bowlers are working really hard and the best thing is they have been very consistent.”
