Shetty guides Eurocon Alubond to victory
ABU DHABI — Vikrant Shetty smashed an entertaining half-century as Eurocon Alubond scored a comprehensive 152-run win over ESI Dare Devils in the Carpetland Ramadan Cup Twenty20 tournament at the Shaikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday night.
The win put Eurocon Alubond level with William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana on top of Group A.
In the other game of the night, Pal CC cruised to a six-wicket victory over Hadiya XI.
Opting to bat, Eurocon Alubond were aided by an entertaining 84 from Vikrant Shetty before he was forced to retire hurt due to cramps. Shetty clubbed seven boundaries and four sixes in 51 balls.
Hanif Malik made 32 from 14 balls with three boundaries and two sixes. Prakash Prajapati took two for 39, while Pravin Shinde picked up two for 42.
ESI Dare Devils were never in the hunt and were shot out for just 57 in 18.3 overs. Ahmad Raza and Sheraz Butt did the damage. Ahmad Raza took three wickets for seven runs, while Sheraz Butt took three for 15. Nazir Aziz picked up two wickets.
In the other game, Hadiya XI, batting first, suffered a collapse before making 129 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Ibrahim Zoeb, coming lower down the order, top scored with 31 from 29 balls with three sixes and one boundary. Mohammed Mannan remained unbeaten on 27 from 29 balls. He hit two boundaries and a six.
Captain Waqar Ahmed picked up three for 24, while Syed Munir and Bahadur Ali took two wickets each.
In reply, Pal CC got home in 14.4 overs, losing four wickets. Openers Asif Hayat and Mahmood Ahmed scored 40. Hayat’s 40 came from 22 balls with five boundaries and two sixes, while Ahmed hit six boundaries and a six in 26 balls, for his 40.
Husain Tezhawala took two for 21, while captain Murtaza Najmi took two for 30.
Pal CC took their tally to four points from three games in Group C that also include New Medical Centre and Ibsons, both unbeaten from two outings.
