Bilal Al Budur, Executive Director for Culture and the Arts at the ministry, said that Monday, August 31, 2009 will be the deadline for accepting nominations, and the names of the winners will be announced in December to coincide with the UAE National Day anniversary celebrations.
He added that the award in its fourth session this year consists of five key entries namely, the area of Science (Electronic Engineering), the field of literature (Al Faseeh Poetry), field studies and research (Management Studies), the field of plastic arts (Spatial Configuration ), and the area of Performing Arts (Directing).
Al Budur referred to the great echo that has been achieved by the award over the past three years, where the President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan took the habit of honouring the winners himself, in the presence of Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, a move which shows the interest and appreciation of the senior leadership in the UAE to the creative Emiratis from the UAE.
'The demand for the award has increased from the UAE innovators and talents who have found it a great opportunity for innovation and competition in all areas. It is a very important prize that embodies a sentimental value from the UAE Government and leadership to the innovators', he noted.
Al Budur added that the objective of the Award is to stimulate the intellectual, cultural and creative people in the UAE, to highlight and honour them and motivate the younger generations to improve knowledge of science, and to promote culture and creativity, intellectuals and creators, scientists and science from the UAE.
In addition to this, he continued that the award is aim to draw the attention of community and the generations to the importance of culture, science and creativity, and to encourage the development of artistic, literary, cultural and scientific skills of citizens, as well as motivating the young generations, and individuals with creative and scientific talents to show their literary, artistic, creative and scientific talents as.
Al Budur stressed that the organising committee for the award took into account the change in the areas of the branches of the prize and offer the opportunity for all of the different disciplines each year and broadcasting the spirit of competition in the selected fields.
About the value of the award, he added that since the launch of the first session of the award the amount of Dh1 million was allocated, where Dh200, 000 is to be awarded to the winners in each section, in addition to a gold medal which bears details of the winning and a certificate of appreciation. This is seen as a substantial addition to the moral value of the prize as it will be given to the winners by the His Highness the Head of State at a formal ceremony attended by their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates, Crown Princes, senior officials and ministers in the dear occasion of the National Day.
On the terms of the participation in the award, the first condition is that the candidate should be a UAE national. The candidate could apply to the prize directly on his own, also cultural and scientific institutions could apply for the candidates whom they consider appropriate in their respective fields, provided that the candidate should be aware of his candidacy.
Al Budur reiterated that the award is appreciative and granted to the overall work of the creator, not as some may think that it would be based on writing a poem, or drawing a picture.
It is worth noting that the following UAE national innovators won the award during the previous sessions: the artist Abdul Qader Mohamed Al-Rais, the writer Mohamed Ahmed Al-Murr, the musician Eid Al Faraaj, a surgeon, Dr. Najib Mohammad Hadi Khaja, Dr. Fatma Al Sayegh, in the year 2006, Professor Yusuf Mohamed Abdulrazzaq Al Bastaki, and the poet Habib Yousef Abdullah Al-Sayegh, the plastic artist Dr. Najat Makki, and Dr. Fawzia Al-Ali, the artist Samira Ahmed in the year 2007, and novelist Ali Abu Rish, and Dr. Jamal Ali Sanad Al Suwaidi, and the artist Ahmed Al Jasmi and the engineer Rashad Mohammed Bo Khesh, and the artist, Abdul Rahim Salem the year 2008.
