Tahir, Irfan bowl William Hare to narrow victory

SHARJAH — Tahir Butt and Irfan Haider produced brilliant spells to guide William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana to a narrow two-wicket victory over Rufi Real Estate in the 23rd Sharjah Ramadan Tournament for the Interface Transworld Cup at the Sharjah stadium on Sunday night.

Tahir returned with an impressive four-wicket haul for just 15 runs while Irfan conceded only four runs for his three wickets as Rufi Real Estate, put in by their opponents, were shot out for 97 in the 24^th over on the sixth day of the tournament which is organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council and supported by 106.2 HUM FM and CBFS as associate sponsors.

Only Waseem (26 off 20 balls with five fours), Rohan Mustafa (16 off 29 balls) and Shoaib (15 not out) could offer any worthwhile resistance to a charged-up Abu Dhabi Gymkhana attack.

The Abu Dhabi team, in reply, also stuttered and stumbled a bit, but managed to clinch the tense thriller with just three balls to spare. Saqib Shah (23 off 27 balls) and Haroon Iftikhar (23 off 58 balls) and Faisal (15) chipped in with some useful contributions with the bat. Rohan was the most successful Rufi Real Estate bowler, taking two wickets for 24 runs, but his efforts weren’t good enough to prevent his side from crashing to another defeat in the month-long tournament.
