Tauqeer Bowls Skyline University to Victory

ABU DHABI - Tauqeer’s six-wicket haul helped Skyline University College beat MAHE Manipal by 18 runs to keep their hopes alive while American University in Sharjah (AUS) beat Emirates Aviation College (EAC) by 90 runs in respective Elite Cup matches of the Interface Gulf Cup cricket tournament at the Shaikh Zayed Stadium.

The tournament is organised by Young Talents Cricket Academy under the auspices of Abu Dhabi Cricket Council.

Skyline, who had lost their opening match to Middlesex University, put on 189 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Abdullah Azher led Skyline’s charge with a defiant 76 runs in 59 balls. Middle-order duo of Osama Ahmed and Tauqeer Ahmed contributed with 28 and 37 runs respectively.

Faced with a daunting task of scoring over 7.5 runs per over, MAHE Manipal were undone by Tauqeer’s superb spell of six wickets for just 11 runs. Tauqeer ran through the top three wickets and later wrapped up the lower-order to bowl out MAHE Manipal for 171 runs.

MAHE Manipal’s opener Glickson Correa hit a defiant 79 runs off 66 balls, but with not much support from his team-mates his efforts went in vain.

In the AUS-EAC match, AUS came back strongly after losing the first match against BITS Pilani, as they scored 215 for four wickets. Haseeb Iqbal top scored with an unbeaten 65 off just 25 balls, hitting five sixes and four boundaries in the process.

Pramod Rastha (55), Fahad Tariq (44) and Shehzad Harris (35) were also among the runs for AUS.

In reply, EAC, managed to score only 125 for eight wickets, despite Rahul Chatwani’s brilliant unbeaten knock of 74. Sharukh Khan, Arqam Aftab and Mohammed Ahmed all grabbed two wickets each for AUS.

Meanwhile International Institute of Technology and Management (IITM) and Preston University advanced to the semifinals in Challenger Cup.
