Sussex won all their pool matches to set up final against Fly Emirates. The professional side from England failed to maintain the momentum and lost the final by 14 runs.

Panesar, while talking to Khaleej Times, shed some light on cricketing matters.

He said: “It is heartening to see Sachin Tendulkar still playing on such level. If Tendulkar performs well it is good for the game globally because he attracts a lot of attention.

“The first-ever double hundred by Tendulkar in one-dayers is a big achievement and only Little Master can set such benchmarks.

“Some major tournaments are coming up in near future — ICC Twenty20 in West Indies and the World Cup in the subcontinent and we can expect many great knocks from this humble man.”

Monty added: “Twenty20 is emerging as a big tool to enhance the game globally. It’s short duration and unpredictability has won a lot of new fans.”

While answering a question about Twenty20 World Cup to be played in West Indies, Monty said: “It is very difficult to predict the favourite in this form of cricket.

“There is no doubt that teams like India and Pakistan have done well in T20 format but on a given day any batsman or bowler can win the game for his team.

“It is difficult to say who is the best player in Twenty20 because there are quite a few around.

“It is the best time for youngsters to show their skills and earn a name. Few years back cricket was not as popular as now. Indian Premier League has opened doors to many upcoming cricketers around the world to exhibit their skills.”
