Varun, Nelukshan and Zafri hit form

DUBAI — A brilliant century by Zafri Zafardeen and two five wicket hauls from Varun Totadri and Nelukshan DeSilva lit up the semi-finals of the Cricket for Care Under-15 Inter Academy tournament supported by Shyam Bhatia and conducted by the Dubai Cricket Council at 7he Sevens Cricket Grounds.

Desert Cubs Cricket Academy and G Force Cricket Academy showcased the immense talent and strength of both the teams with some outstanding performances by the young players of both these Academies.

Zafri Zafardeen displayed great maturity in his superb knock of 122 runs against Al Ain Sportsplex whose bowlers had no clue against his excellent batting form.

He only took 79 balls in which he hit four sixes and eleven boundaries to come up with a match winning performance for his team.

It was his century which saw Desert Cubs put up a formidable 216 runs which saw them to a big 134 run win. Umair bowled well for Al Ain Sportsplex picking up two wickets for 32 runs.

Faced with a stiff target, Al Ain Sportsplex batsmen were bamboozled by a mesmerising spell from Nelukshan DeSilva who prised out five batsmen from the middle and tail to trigger a complete collapse of the visitors team. He only conceded 18 runs in his four over spell and bagged five wickets.

Wicket-keeper Nasim Hassan was the sole batsman to shine with a knock of 25 runs in 31 balls for Al Ain Sportsplex while jerry Jose was unbeaten with 14 runs.

G Force Cricket Academy 183 for 6 (Kartik Dudeja 63, Anjamy Malpani 58 n.o., Akhilesh Sawant 25, Vishwanth 2 for 18, Shiv Mehra 2 for 30). Young Talent Cricket Academy 50 for all out (Shiv Mehra 17, Varun Totadri 5 for 5, Aditya Mohan 2 for 12). Man of the Match: Anjaney Malpani of G Force Cricket Academy.
