WED CC win Nehru Cup

AL AIN — WED Cricket Club of Al Ain lifted the 15th Al Faraa-Nehru Cup after they outplayed Al Ain CC by a huge margin of 189 runs in the ‘A’ division final while Warriors XI won the Juniors’ title with an impressive 30-run victory over Kashmir CC in the 15th Al Faraa-Nehru Cup 2010 finals played in Al Ain over the weekend.

WED CC’s opener Sajjad Husain continued his terrific form with back to back centuries as he blasted an unbeaten 173 (74balls,7x6s,23x4s) sharing an unbroken 252-runs 4th wicket record stand with Khalid Adeeb who also cracked an unbeaten 103 (47balls, 3x6s, 16x4s) to completely outwit Al Ain CC bowlers who were helpless as WED CC amassed 314/3 in 24 overs. Kamil was the most successful of Al Ain CC’s bowlers taking 2/50.

Chasing more than 13 runs an over proved too difficult for Al Ain CC as at 125/5 in the 10th over, they conceded the match, losing by 189 runs. WED CC’s Khalid Shakir took 2/34 while Azeem Ansari & Khalid Adeeb bowled a tight spell chipping in with a wicket each.

In the ‘B’ Division final, Warriors XI overpowered Kashmir CC in an exciting contest winning by 30 runs. Mujeeb’s 85 was the main contribution as Warriors XI piled up 243/7 in 25 overs. Kashmir CC tried hard but fell short by 30 runs as none of the batsmen could play a match-winning innings. Namshi bagged 3/40 while Aamer and Tahir took two wickets each.
