WED CC cruised to the Nehru Cup final with a professional display outplaying a strong Al Faraa side. Put in to bat, WED CC’s opener Sajjad Hussain hit a brilliant 134 (2x6s, 18x4s, 62 balls) smashing Al Faraa CC bowlers all over the ground.
Sajjad shared a match-winning 160-run partnership with Imtiaz Ahmad (57,1x6,8x4s) as WED CC piled up a challenging 221/6 in 23 overs. Azeem Akbar took 3/48 while Mohammad Kamran bagged 2/41.
In reply, Al Faraa Whites’ batsmen were tested against a disciplined WED CC bowling attack and wilted under pressure and could manage only 207/6 with Mohammad Kamran (53) and Azeem Akbar (78 n.o) providing some resistance.
WED CC’s young Azeem Ansari bowled an outstanding spell taking 2/25 in 4 overs at the crucial juncture of the game. WED CC will now meet Al Ain Club in the prestigious Nehru Cup final this Friday.
In the other ‘A’ division semi-final, Al Ain Club amassed 269/7 against Warriors from Abu Dhabi with in-form Shahid Butt (81, 4x6s,13x4s, 33 balls), Awad Barghout (72, 9x4s) and Kamil (65, 7x6s, 2x4s) being the main contributors. Yasir took 3/45.
