Shaiman Butt scored a 31-ball 113 while Swapnil Patil hit an unbeaten 131 from 68 balls to provide a feast of runs in Group A match. This is the first time two centuries helped the winners in the event. Yogi Group scored a record 307 in the tournament to defeat HSBC by 176 runs. In another weekend match in the same group BMX XI beat Wings XI by 63 runs.
The 20-over championship is being organised by Dulsco Sports Club, in association with Dubai Municipality. The tourney is being played under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council.
Electing to bat first, Yogi began badly losing both their openers Prabodhan Kanse (11) and Ambey Parvatkar (1) for 20 runs. However, when Patil and Butt walked in, it was a total change for the Yogi Group. Patil, who was selected to play for UAE, used his bat to prove that he deserved his place in the ECB team. He hit seven fours and nine sixes while facing 68 balls for his 131.
Butt was aggressive than his partner and took only 31 balls to get his 113. He reached the fence six times and over it on a dozen occasions. Butt’s brilliant display earned him the man of the match.
Ajmal remained not out on 29 as Yogi Group set up a mammoth task for HSBC to score 308 for victory.
Ashraf, Abraham and Hasnain picked up one Yogi wicket while Ravi was punished by the rival batsmen. With an asking rate of 15.4 runs per over, HSBC succumbed under pressure and never even came close to making it a contest.
The bankmen lost wickets regularly and were all out for 131 runs. Only Ravi (56) and opener Gul Khan (38) offered some resistance.
Sadam was the most successful bowler for the winners with three wickets for 14 runs. Captain Shiva Pagrani claimed two for 26 while Kamran, Rameez and Salman picked up one apiece.
