When an Emirati woman found that three maids in her house were practicing sorcery, she got panicky and called the police to seek their help. The police immediately reached the place and nabbed the trio.
Apart from materials used in black magic, they also recovered gold jewellery worth Dh320,000 and alcohol from their possession.
The Asian maids stood trial in the Sharjah Criminal Court on charges of practising black magic, theft of gold and possession of alcohol. The maids, including two Filipina and one Indian, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court documents showed that when the police arrived, the woman told them that the three maids were involved in sorcery and she feared for her life, since she felt the accused could harm her and her family members.
The CID team searched the room where the maids stayed and found stolen gold, alcoholic beverages in their possession.
During the court hearing, the presiding judge called the woman for testimony. She was scared of entering the court room, but later mustered enough courage to do so. She told the court that she contacted the police because she had found magic materials in the house and in the room of the maids.
The woman said that she had never suspected the trio of theft, but discovery of the stolen gold jewellery shocked her. She added alcoholic drinks were seized from their wardrobe.
One of the defendants said that the gold jewellery belonged to her, claiming that she bought it from her earnings.
