Three African women have been sentenced to one year in jail each for working in prostitution and stealing Dh200,000.
The Court of First Instance ordered they be deported after completing their sentences. The three Ugandans (two unemployed and a tourist, aged 27, 35 and 32) were arrested in February in Naif.
The three were reported by a Nigerian national, who accused them of robbing him of Dh200,000. They admitted the prostitution charge and denied the theft in court.
"After midnight on February 29, a man complained at the police station that he was robbed by three women," a police sergeant said.
The man told the cops that he was in the defendants' flat in Al Nakheel to have sex with one of them. "He was carrying a hand bag with Dh998,339. He said he put it near the bed as he had sex with the woman. But he spotted her friends stealing Dh200,000 from it."
Before the man could grab the one, with whom he was having sex, all the three women managed to flee the place.
When they were arrested in Sharjah, the accused admitted to the robbery charge. "They also confessed they were working in prostitution for Dh50. I saw a clip in the phone of one of them featuring their celebration of the theft in a flat rented by one of them," the sergeant said.
The officer handed the flash memory over to the prosecution.
The forensic report showed that the DNA traces found on the second accused matched with the Nigerian's. The verdict may be appealed.
