A 61-year-old man allegedly tricked a female student, 25, in going to his flat on the pretext of meeting his daughters and molested her, a court heard.
The unemployed Afghani accused is believed to have grabbed the woman by her neck and “kissed her violently” on November 24 last year. He was charged with molestation in the Court of First Instance.
The student, an Iranian, told the prosecution that she accepted the defendant’s invitation to visit his house to meet his daughters without any suspicion given his age. “When I went inside his flat I realised it was quiet. I asked about his girls and learnt they were out shopping.”
They talked for a while before she told him that she had to go. However, he grabbed her by the hand and told her to stay to see the rooms. As they got near his bedroom, she felt awkward and pulled her hand away.
That was when the defendant allegedly sexually assaulted her, after which she pushed him away. On her way out, the defendant allegedly offered her Dh200 and told her not to inform anybody about what happened, she recounted in the investigation.
The complainant’s sister, a student, 21, testified in the investigation that her sister called her on the phone and told her she had a problem. “She was crying and had a contusion on her cheek and there was a red mark on her neck.”
She said she learnt that the defendant went to their house and asked about their grandfather. “He invited my sister to see his daughters of her age. She accepted as he insisted. He attacked her there where they were alone.”
The defendant admitted in the interrogation that he kissed the victim on her cheeks.
