The Abu Dhabi Municipality has found many violations in sports clubs during an inspection drive being carried across Al Wathba. As many as 74 prohibited items were confiscated and 73 notices served to clubs in a campaign covering Baniyas East, Baniyas West, Bawabat Al Sharq at Baniyas, Makani Centre at Al Shamkha, and Al Mafraq Hotel at Al Mafraq.
The Department of Municipal Affairs drive was carried out to check if sports clubs were following the set health norms. The department wanted to ensure that the clubs were not using unlicensed drugs or plants.
During the drive, the department seized 74 prohibited substances after it was found that the clubs had no valid permits to sell those substances. Also, 73 notices were served for breach of set regulations in the Capital, 19 instant offence tickets were issued, five offences were referred to the judiciary and 14 other offences were under consideration to be referred to the judiciary.
With such campaigns, the municipality also aims to raise health awareness practices among the professionals working in this field.
During the campaign, the department also found that the number of offences had reduced at these clubs.
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has been holding such awareness campaigns for some time now. It has held a series of training courses for staff members working at sports clubs, beauty parlours and hair cutting salons.
The overall objective of these campaigns is to realise the best standards of health and safety, and enhance the level of services provided to customers at such facilities.
