The Abu Dhabi police has chased down a motorist who used a fake number plate, and caused an accident.
The police arrested the 24-year-old GCC national who fled the scene after causing the accident.
Initial police investigations suggested that the motorist was altering car number plates from one vehicle to another, which is a violation of the law.
He has been referred to the public prosecution for charges.
Brigadier Mohammed Dhahi Al-Humairi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department said police managed to chase and arrest the driver after being notified about the incident. His car was also seized.
Tampering with a car number plate or using a fake number plate are offences, and violators can be imprisoned or fined up to Dh20,000, according to article 49 of the Traffic Crimes Penalties.
