A 22-year-old Afghan construction worker was killed and three Indian workers injured after a wall partially collapsed at an under-construction site, in Dubai on Thursday.
The police were notified about the incident that occurred in at Al Barsha area around 6.30pm.
The team dispatched to the site found that the concrete wall had fallen on the workers. The deceased has been identified as Omran Karami, who died on the spot from severe injuries.
The injured workers are between 22 and 27 years of age.
The official on charge at the site said that the accident took place when the workers' supervisor instructed the driver of the on-site dirt truck to shift some sand. In the process, the driver accidently hit the wall, which partially collapsed onto the workers who were nearby. The driver has been detained by the police for investigation.
Dubai Police's air wing and ambulance transported the injured to Rashid Hospital. The police carried out the initial investigation and referred the dead body to the General Department of Forensic Medicine.
An eyewitness, also a construction worker at the site, said that the incident was unexpected, "horrible" and that everything happened within seconds before anyone could react. All the workers were in mourning for their colleagues, he said.
Another worker said that the injured men and the deceased worker were chatting during their break time when the unfortunate accident happened .
