An employee at a Dubai amusement park has been brought to trial for allegedly sexually harassing a female colleague.
The 23-year-old Kenyan is accused of touching the Emirati woman's face, chest and waist against her will.
He denied the charges at the Court of First Instance on Sunday. "We were talking about henna. I just touched her hand after asking if it was okay with her," he claimed.
He denied that he touched the complainant's body or did anything wrong. "I just pointed at her face. I asked her about the henna on her hand when I touched it. But I did not know that it is wrong." The complaint was registered on December 6, last year, at Jebel Ali police.
The complainant, a 20-year-old, said she was with other colleagues including the accused. "My other workmates went for a break. So he started a conversation asking me about my name and how I'm doing at work, and I was answering him. But when I tried to stand up, he extended his hand to help me. His hand then touched my face."
She said in her complaint that as she pushed his hand away he moved it again to her chest and waist.
"The woman concerned said she was with the accused at the cars playing area when she tried to stand up," a policeman said. The evidence includes a CCTV footage showing the woman pushing away the hand of the defendant after he touched her face.
