The court also ordered that the 32-year-old, charged with molestation, an indecent public act and breaching a woman’s modesty, be deported.
An Egyptian bank supervisor was sentenced to one year in prison on Sunday for sexually harassing a young woman in a lift while watching a porn clip on his mobile phone.
The Court of First Instance also ordered that the 32-year-old, charged with molestation, an indecent public act and breaching a woman’s modesty, be deported after serving his time in prison.
The woman, a 19-year-old Syrian housewife, said during the prosecution investigation that she had gone to a grocery and was returning to her flat in Silicon Oasis in Al Rashidiyah.
The man entered the lift with her and she realised he was watching pornography on his mobile phone.
He told her he lived on the third floor and asked her whether she was married. “He told me that if I felt like having sex, he was there in the building,” the young woman told investigators. “He then touched my body with his.”
She yelled at him and was close to tears.
When he reached his floor, he exposed himself while still watching the clip, the woman said.
She called her husband as soon as she reached her flat on the fourth floor. A police corporal said the incident was reported around 4:25pm on April 28.
The police found semen traces near the lift on the third floor. The man was caught on CCTV surveillance cameras installed outside the building stalking the woman and watching her. He followed her inside the building.
The police tracked him down and discovered he worked in a bank in the area.
He was arrested and shown to the woman, who identified him on May 22.
The Criminal Evidence Department report showed a match between the semen traces lifted from the crime scene and the defendant’s sample.
The verdict can be appealed within 15 days.
