Businessman robs electronic items worth Dh73,000

82 cameras and 8 digital printers were stolen from the shop in Naif

A man accused of breaking into a shop and robbing 82 cameras and 8 digital printers went on trial in the Court of First Instance on Sunday.
A Comoros Islands passport holder, who works at the shop in Naif, said that the stolen goods were worth Dh73,732. He added that the robbery was caught on the CCTV cameras of a nearby shop.
According to prosecution records, the 30-year-old Pakistani businessman, made away with the stolen goods, including electronics and Dh3,300 in cash, along with two other runaway accomplices at night on March 1.
He has been charged with forcible robbery at night and damaging of property.
The shop employee, who reported the incident, said he locked the shop at around 10pm the day before the incident.
"When confronted with the charge, the accused admitted. He claimed he waited for the two other thieves in his car. They split the goods later," a police sergeant said.
His fingerprints were not found in the shop. Some of the stolen items were recovered from his place.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 31.
