Captain Abdullah Hamad Al Tamimi, head of the customer service and public relations section at the Directorate of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, said that the incident was triggered by burning of the plastic materials in the basement of the building due to their random storage that led to the spread of huge smoke.
He added that when the civil defence teams received the report, they immediately rushed to the scent of incident, where they doused the fire.
Captain Abdullah said that investigations are underway to determine causes of the incident, stressing the need for adhering to the safety measures during the construction phases, which involve a number of workers that could risk their lives in incidents.
He warned about storing the building materials randomly so as to avoid fire incidents, calling for provision of the safety and preventive measures, as well as emergency exits.
