A 35-year-old Filipino national was charged in a Dubai court for allegedly stealing Dh1,000 from a money exchange office. The accused used to work as a clerk at the exchange.
An official in the exchange office told the prosecutors that the accused had stolen the cash from an accountant's money box when he went to the toilet.
The incident allegedly happened on November 3 this year.
The employee A.D. had found Dh1,000 was missing from the box. When reviewed the CCTV footage, the accused was seen stealing the money; and confessed to the crime.
The official also told the prosecutors that the accused has embezzled money from Chinese customers.
According to him, when a Chinese customer gave the accused Dh2,000, he dropped Dh1,000 on the ground and told the customer that he gave him only Dh1,000. Believing the Filipino accused, the Chinese gave him another Dh1,000. The accused had confessed to this crime as well when they confronted him after reviewing the CCTV cameras.
