Two Indian carpenters were charged in court with fatally assaulting a compatriot by kicking him several times in the head.
The two workers, who are both aged 40, and were drunk at the time of the attack, faced a charge of assault leading to death, in the Court of First Instance on Monday.
They are charged with consuming alcohol without a license.
The incident was reported on February 14 to Jebel Ali police. The victim died at hospital. Surgeries failed to save his life.
The cause of death was severe bleeding in the head due to a blunt force trauma, and breathing complications, as shown in the forensic report.
"At 1:30am we were informed about an attack incident at Dubai Investment Park. We met two workers there and they said they were heading to their accommodation at 11:30 am on February 13 when they saw the two accused kicking the victim in the head," a police corporal said during the investigation.
"The two witnesses got close to where the accused stood in a sandy yard and saw the victim lying down bleeding from the head. They smell like alcohol," the corporal told the prosecutor.
The duo soon fled the scene but one of them was caught by a group of workers and handed to the police.
The police arrived and arrested the other defendant at his accommodation shortly later. The latter was still under the influence of alcohol.
The next hearing will be held on October 20.
