A 43-year-old worker, who allegedly sexually harassed a teen while she was strolling with her grandmother, stood trial on Tuesday.
The Pakistani man, in detention, did not appear before the Court of First Instance to enter a plea to the molestation charge.
A complaint was filed against him at the Naif police station on October 17.
The 19-year Emirati student said the incident happened around 12:15pm. "I was taking a walk with my grandmother in Freej Al Murar area when a Pakistani man took me by surprise. He slapped me in an inappropriate way."
The student ran after him screaming for help, which prompted the passersby to catch him.
The girl's 50-year-old Emirati grandmother gave a similar statement to interrogators.
"I was in the area when the incident occurred. People gathered as the girl's grandmother was screaming for help. I caught the accused and took him into custody. He looked drunk," a police corporal said.
The court adjourned the hearing to December 14.
