A Dubai expat has been charged in court for allegedly forging a parking ticket to avoid paying the fee.
The Filipino expat, a 28-year-old who works as a nurse, admitted to typing the 'parking ticket' at his workplace and printing it on his own, copying the official one issued by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), according to public prosecution records.
He then wrapped the new ticket with a transparent sticker and placed it on his car to make inspectors think he paid for the parking, the defendant told a police corporal during interrogation proceedings.
An unknown suspect also allegedly helped him in the forgery.
A parking inspector with the RTA told the prosecutor that on August 8 last year, he was doing his rounds when he saw the defendant's car.
"I was on Al Wasl road, Jumeirah, when I spotted the defendant's car. I checked the ticket placed in front but its details were not clear," he said.
Upon calling the RTA's permits section, the inspector learnt that the ticket had expired and the defendant's car had no permit to park in a paid zone. The information then prompted him to call the police.
The defendant was charged with forgery, and a case was registered at the Bur Dubai police station.
A letter from the RTA confirmed that the ticket seized from the accused was forged and was not issued by their office.
The trial has been adjourned to January 28.
