A technician allegedly killed his colleague by throwing a concrete block on his head following a verbal brawl, a Dubai court has heard.
The Court of First Instance was told that the 25-year-old Indian had an altercation with his colleague on March 31 and planned to kill him. He went to the rooftop of their 8-floor accommodation building in Jebel Ali and threw a concrete block on the victim's head. Another worker sustained injuries in the incident.
He has been charged with premeditated murder and assault.
During interrogation, the defendant reportedly told a policeman:

"We were at a farewell party of a coworker and we all drank alcohol. We then went to a restaurant but did not eat because I had an argument with the supervisor at the restaurant. On our way back to our accommodation, the victim blamed me for missing the dinner meal. He then pushed me and I fell down. The victim kept walking indifferently."
The defendant then told the policeman that he felt like taking revenge. "I thought about it for a minute while they walked ahead. Later, I found them sitting below the building we stayed in."
He then went to the rooftop and pushed the concrete block, which fell on the victim's head.
On going down, he found the victim lying down on his back and bleeding profusely from the head.
A 29-year-old Indian technician, who was also injured in the incident, said the defendant excused himself on the pretext of going to the toilet.
"He said he would come back a few minutes later. But shortly later, a concrete block fell off the building on the victim's head and it hit my feet. As I fell, I looked up and saw the defendant on the rooftop. The latter then came down and tried to wake up the victim, who was bleeding a lot from the head."
The hearing has been adjourned to September 18.
