The Court of First Instance convicted the defendant, a 27-year-old from India, of attempted murder. He is accused of stabbing a 36-year-old compatriot.
According to court records, the accused stabbed the other worker in his chest and back and could have killed him had he not been given the necessary medical treatment in time.
The incident dates back to June 1 last year when the two had a verbal brawl while on a construction site in Jebel Ali. The brawl, as recounted by the victim, started when he asked the accused why he was chewing paan. Another worker at the site confirmed having seen the accused stabbing the victim many times. The worker alleged the accused threatened to stab him too if he got closer. But other workers stepped in and moved the accused away from the victim.
The verdict can be appealed within 15 days.
