The police charged her mother with negligence, saying she left the child, named Amnah, alone in the room and the little one climbed on the window and was looking down when she fell.

Lt-Colonel Ahmed bin Harmool, Director of Al Buhaira police station, said the mother told the police that she left her daughter in the room when she went inside the kitchen to cook food.

The window was closed and she did not know how Amnah opened it. After a while, she noticed that there was no sound from the room and went inside but did not find her. She was shocked to see the window open and when she looked down, she saw Amnah lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

The police found out that the girl had climbed on a table kept near the window and inferred that she might have looked down to the street through the window and fallen, causing her immediate death.

Major Abdullah Salim, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Al Buhairah police station, said when they received the call at 9pm, patrols, CID officers, an ambulance team and forensic experts rushed to the scene and found the girl lying in a pool of blood.

The body was shifted to the forensic laboratory and her parents were taken into custody.

Colonel Sultan Al Khayal, Director of Media and Public Relations at the Sharjah Police, warned people against leaving tables and other objects near windows or keeping doors of balconies unlocked.

He also called on mothers to supervise their children and ensure their safety to avoid such tragic incidents that left families in deep sorrow and devastation.

Col Al Khayal also urged the departments concerned to introduce effective conditions in the construction of balconies and windows to prevent the children from falling.

The owners of buildings must instal barriers for the windows and balconies in towers to protect the children.
