Global Village rides still shut after death
Rides at Global Village's funfair zone remain shuttered a week after the tragic death of a 37-year-old Emirati who died after being hit by a falling iron rod that came off a Ferris wheel.
Since then, the fun zone has remained shut, with six metres of the area being cordoned off. The rest of the areas in the cultural hub continue to remain open to public.
Global Village CEO Saeed Ali bin Redha said: "The investigation is ongoing and Global Village management is working closely with the concerned authorities, providing full support, following the tragedy."
Officials have not been informed about when the investigation might be completed and the area will be open to the public.
A Dubai Municipality spokesman said its officials had "approached the investigation team many times, last on Wednesday", but were unable to issue a statement as to what the results of the investigation might indicate. It is not yet known which parties will be held responsible, with no charges yet laid.
The results of the investigation will be made public as soon as the enquiry is complete as to who was responsible and what can in future be done to avert such fatal disasters, authorities said.
The funfair area has been managed and operated by Freij Entertainment, a private company, since the opening of the Global Village few months back.
