A 26-year-old government official was referred to the Dubai criminal court for allegedly threatening to kill his ex-wife and damaging the furniture in her house.
During police investigation, the woman revealed that the defendant used to live with her in her apartment in Mirdif area. They got divorced last May and the man left the house.
After some time, he called her telling her that he would visit her to collect his belongings, including some clothes and papers.
She told the cops that the suspect contacted her on WhatsApp and also enquired about his ATM card. She sent him a photocopy of the card as requested by him. The man said he would collect the card later.
However, the victim pointed out that she was surprised when the accused dropped in at 5am the next morning. He asked her about the ATM card right away. She told him that it was among his belongings. An argument ensued over how he would carry the belongings to his place in Ajman. The spat took an ugly turn and the man brought a knife from the kitchen and threatened to kill her. In a fit of rage, he damaged some of the apartment furniture estimated to be around Dh2,000 and dared her to call the police.
The woman called the security guard deployed in the building, forcing the accused to flee.
Following the woman's complaint, the Dubai Police arrested the man after he confessed to the wrongdoing. The public prosecutor then referred him to the criminal court.
