The Dubai Human Rights has given a grandmother custody of her three-year-old granddaughter to protect her from her abusive, drug-abusing father until the completion of legal action against him.
According to Major Shahin Al Mazmi, Director of the Women and Child Protection section of Dubai Police, when the man was in dispute with his wife, he would threaten to throw the child through the window or burn the girl.
He noted that the Dubai Police responded to the grandmother's appeal to protect the child until problems between her daughter and her husband are solved, and the case has been referred to court. The man allegedly tried to break into the grandmother's house, but was stopped. A complaint was lodged in the incident.
Fatima Al Kindi, Head of the Social Support Centre at the Human Rights Department of the Dubai Police, said that the Human Rights attempted to call the man to resolve the dispute amicably, but he refused to respond.
The Human Rights Department also contacted the concerned department to rehabilitate the mother after the traumatic situation, so that she can be granted custody of the child.
