A 21-year-old man has been charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly robbing Dh25,850 worth of power cables from his workplace.
The court heard that the Asian man, working as a security guard for a hypermarket, robbed the cables while on the job. The hunt for other accomplices, who are at large, is still on.
The case dates back to August 21. It was registered at Al Qusais police station.
An Indian employee at the plaintiff's firm said that around 9pm on the incident day, they checked the CCTV cameras. "We received a report about robbery of power cables at a construction site of a building belonging to the company in Al Qusais."
The employee told the public prosecution investigator that the guard let two men inside the construction site and they robbed cables worth about Dh25,850.
During the investigation, the witness said that when they confronted the security guard about the robbery, he confessed immediately, claiming to have committed it together with the other two fugitives. The man blamed it on the financial problems he had been going through.
The accused admitted to the charge during the police interrogation and the public prosecution investigation.
The defendant has been placed in detention.
