A 26-year-old has been sentenced to life while two others got 10 years in jail over drug abuse in Dubai recently.
All the three accused were Iranians and found guilty of possessing and selling heroin by the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The first accused, 26-year-old Iranian visitor, was found guilty of possessing 8.9kgs of heroin with an intention to sell it.
Two other Iranians - both sailors, aged 27 and 24- have also been ordered to pay Dh100,000 in fines.
All of them will be deported after completing their jail terms, as per the court's order.
An anti-narcotics police lieutenant said the trio was arrested in a sting operation by Deira-based officers on Feb. 24.
"An undercover police officer met the first accused and posed as a potential buyer for the drugs. Other officers were watching from a distance near the fish market in Deira."
When the accused received the money from the undercover officer, the police raided the latter's car.
The two other accomplices were apprehended at the port. No drugs were found in their boat.
The convicts may appeal the verdict within 15 days.
