A worker, who allegedly helped his wanted brother flee the UAE by giving him his passport and residence visa, faced charges of being accessory to using authentic documents in others’ names and helping and aiding a fugitive escape justice. The defendant stood in the dock in the Court of First Instance on Sunday.

According to prosecution records, the 32-year-old Bangladeshi worker lent his passport and residence visa to his brother, who is wanted by the police for theft cases. The accused is believed to have conspired with his fugitive brother to trick the passport officials at the Dubai airport by giving him his passport.

The defendant admitted in the Public Prosecution investigation that he gave his brother his ID card and passport in September 2013 in Naif area so that he could leave the UAE. A police officer from the Al Ain Police Directorate, who interrogated the defendant, quoted him as admitting in the investigation that he gave his documents to his wanted brother, taking advantage of the fact that they resemble each other.

The defendant was arrested on December 5, last year.
