A man has been ordered by the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance to pay Dh50,000 as compensation to his wife after he was found guilty of torturing her by burning her body with cigarette butts and assaulting her.
The woman had filed a complaint and lawsuit against her husband accusing him of physical assault.
She said the man kicked her and hit her with an electric charger cable. The woman also accused him of banging her face on the table and burning different parts of her body with cigarette butts.
She had presented a medical report to authorities, which confirmed that the woman sustained severe injuries on her body due to the assaults.
Another medical report issued to her by a psychiatric hospital indicated that she suffered from general anxiety, confusion, intense fear, insomnia and loss of appetite.
During investigations, the husband had admitted assaulting the woman claiming that he was punishing her because his wife had brought another man in the hotel room, where the couple was staying, and had sex with him.
A medical report by experts assigned by court showed that the woman suffered multiple bruises on her face and scalp and a large swelling on her left cheek. She also sustained injuries to the forearms, wrists, hands, and the back. The woman received psychological treatment.
After hearing from all the parties, the court ordered that the man to pay his wife Dh30,000 as compensation for the physical injuries and Dh20,000 for material and psychological damages.
