A 22-year-old Nigerian lost his eye after he was assaulted with a cricket bat as he tried to stop a group clash involving about 20 Asian workers in Sharjah's industrial area number 1. The man, who has sustained critical injuries, is being treated at Al Qassimi Hospital.
The Nigerian suffered from excessive bleeding and a fracture in the skull, hospital authorities said.
Some of the workers are also undergoing treatment at Al Kuwaiti Hospital.
According to the police, the man was assaulted when he went to the labour accommodation to visit his friend. On the way, he saw the workers involved in a brawl and tried to intervene to stop the fighting. But he got beaten up by them. Despite being badly injured, he managed to reach the room of his friends, who rushed him to Al Qassimi Hospital.
