A 30-year-old manager stood trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance for producing a fake Emirates ID before a police officer.
The man who was on a wanted list in Sharjah was trying to evade arrest by producing a fake ID, the court was heard.
The court charged the Syrian man with using others' personal official document.
"I was on patrol duty in Zabeel 1 area when I spotted a white car with the defendant behind the wheel. I checked its plate number in the traffic system and found its colour should be silver. I stopped the driver and requested his driving licence and car registration card. He claimed the documents were at his office," a police corporal said.
"I then requested his ID. The Moroccan woman, who was with him showed her ID. However, the driver took out two IDs and picked one to show it to me.
"He insisted he was the original holder of the ID as I told him the photo on it looked different. I informed my supervisor and he instructed me to order the driver to step out of the car. But the latter drove his car off. I reported him to the operation room and issued him a traffic ticket."
The defendant's Moroccan companion went later to the police station and provided the officers with his mobile number. The police tracked his traffic file in their data base and issued a circular against him.
During investigation, the defendant admitted he produced to the police officer an ID belonging to a Syrian employee at his auto showroom.
He confessed that he had been wanted by Sharjah public prosecution and that's why he drove off when the Dubai police officer found the ID was not his.
