Two Pakistanis faced a theft charge on Monday for allegedly stealing cables from a construction site after subduing the guard and sexually assaulting him.
The two unemployed men, aged 25 and 30, were allegedly with other accomplices - already convicted men - on January 28, 2015, when they stole cables worth about Dh14,000 from a construction site in Al Khawaneej, Al Rashidiyah.
They also woke the security guard up and threatened him with a stick, while they cut and stole the cables with sharp tools.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges in the Court of First Instance.
The guard, a 30-year-old Indian, said he was asleep at the site belonging to a contracting company around 2 am. "I heard knocking on the door and when I opened it, three men barged inside. They made me sit on the bed. One of them had a stick".
Two others followed them inside and all the men had covered their faces. "I saw them entering the warehouse and they carried cables and electric wires inside large bags they had brought with them," the guard said.
He told the investigators that one of the thieves then covered his head with a blanket and sexually assaulted him. They fled the place about one hour later. He could not call the police because they also stole his mobile phone.
He waited till the dawn prayer to go to the mosque, where he used someone else's phone to call the site engineer.
According to a police sergeant, an arrest was made in Al Qusais Industrial area on April 26 last year, following leads on the involvement of the first accused in the theft. Another defendant was apprehended on June 20, 2015, in the same area. They admitted to the charges during the interrogation, and also admitted to other theft incidents.
The court will announce a ruling on February 27.
