Pair accused of robbery bid on health centre in Dubai

Dubai - The two, an Emirati and an Iranian, aged 21 and 22, are accused of entering the centre on March 17 and taking out the weapons they were hiding under their clothes.

Two unemployed men faced an attempted robbery charge in the Court of First Instance on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to rob cash from a health centre in Al Muraqqabat area with the use of a sword and a knife.
The two, an Emirati and an Iranian, aged 21 and 22, are accused of entering the centre on March 17 and taking out the weapons they were hiding under their clothes.
One of the owners of the health centre, a Chinese, 28, said he was at the centre when the two defendants entered and sat in the waiting room.
"They took out the weapons and said they wanted Dh300 a week in return for protecting the centre. But I rejected their offer. They then tried to open the cash register and when I tried to stop them one of them pointed a knife on my neck."
One of the co-owners arrived shortly later with the police and the duo was arrested.
A police lieutenant said one of the owners of the health centre reported the attempted robbery incident to the Al Muraqqabat police station around 1.40 am on March 17. "She said two youths had entered armed with weapons. She added that she was informed about the incident by another employee and went there to check out what was happening. That is when she saw the pair threatening the staff and customers."
They two men tried to resist the officers but eventually they were brought under control. The court will pronounce a verdict on October 25.-mary@khaleejtimes.com
