Two drivers have been charged in the Court of First Instance with possession of narcotics with the intention to sell.
The two Syrians, aged 37 and 27, were arrested on April 21 with as many as 24,400 pills of amphetamine in their possession. The seized quantity weighed 4.3kg.
A captain in the anti-narcotics division of the Dubai police said they were tipped off that the two accused who stayed in the French cluster of the International City, possessed a large quantity of narcotics and were planning to export it. With a public prosecution warrant, the narcotics officers raided their studio flat.
"We asked the first accused - identified as R.R. - whether he possessed any drugs and he admitted he had 25 bags in the boot of his car."
The officers did find the bags full with amphetamine pills in his car.
"R.R. confessed that he was to hand over the drugs to his accomplice, S.A., who in turn would have delivered them to truck drivers to have them smuggled into Kuwait.
"R.R. claimed he knew about the pills from a Syrian in Kuwait. That man phoned and told him that they were hidden beneath a truck at a petrol station in the International City".
S.A. was also arrested outside the building. The duo was to get paid after the job was done.
R.R. admitted in the public prosecution investigation that he had done the same pick-up and delivery of drugs twice before and had been paid Dh25,000.
The court will give a verdict on August 18.
