Two men, on trial for having consensual sex with a prostitute and stealing large amounts of cash from her flat, were referred to the Court of Misdemeanours on Tuesday.
The Court of First Instance earlier heard the two Palestinian men stole (together with a runaway accomplice) Dh314,000 and 180,000 Iraqi dinars from a safe in the Iranian woman's flat.
On Tuesday, the Court of First Instance ruled it was out of its jurisdiction to sentence the two men as they were charged and referred them to the Court of Misdemeanours. However, it convicted the woman of working in prostitution and sentenced her to one year in jail, to be followed by deportation. The incident took place on April 14 after the woman received the three men in her flat in Oud Al Muteena, Al Muraqqabat.
She told the prosecutors she had met the two accused and another man in a night club at 2am. They had an agreement to have sex with her for Dh2,500.
She welcomed them in her flat about one hour later and let them have sex with her one after the other after she was paid the amount. She kept the money in a safe which she locked in front of them.
She then received a phone call from another client and was asked to go to him. "One of the men in my place told me he wanted to have sex with me again for money and he would wait for me until I came back. I left him there".
She left with the two others at 5.30am and came back at 8.45am. "I found the flat's door was open. The man was not there. The money I kept in the safe was gone".
She reported the incident to the police. The two men were tracked after the fingerprints of one of them (left on the bathroom's door handle) had a match in the police database.
The police learned the third man left the UAE to Indonesia on the same day the incident occurred.
