A 24-year-old student has been charged with resisting arrest, assaulting an on-duty police officer and insulting him.
The case came to the fore in May when the complainant, who is a corporal at Dubai Police, received a report of a problem in Ras Al Khor industrial area 1.
The accused had entered a company premises in the area and threatened the employees with a sharp-edged weapon. He fled the place later.
When the police arrived, they combed the entire area.
The complainant pointed out that when he found the accused nearby, he asked him to get inside the police vehicle but he refused.
While trying to resist arrest, the student insulted the police officer and punched him twice, before being overpowered.
The public prosecution referred the youth to the Dubai Criminal Court.
