The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court found the man guilty of duplicating paid car parking tickets belonging to the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT).

The man will serve three months in jail, suspended for three years, to be followed by deportation. The court also ordered the seizure of the forged tickets found in his car.

The DoT filed a complaint against the accused after one of its inspectors suspected a parking ticket found in a car. On examining the ticket, the ticket number was incorrect. The DoT reported the matter to the police. When officers searched the perpetrator’s car, 14 parking tickets, of which 12 had been forged, were recovered.

The Forensic Evidence Department report said the tickets had been duplicated by scanning and copying genuine Mawaqif’s car parking tickets. During questioning, the accused confessed before the police and the Public Prosecution that he was using and driving the car in which the fake car parking tickets were found.

He also admitted that he possessed and used the tickets, but denied knowing that the tickets were fake. He claimed that he bought the tickets from an Asian man whom he did not know.

However, the court was not satisfied with the claims as he failed to produce evidence to substantiate his claims. — news@khaleejtimes.com
