Five Vietnamese allegedly kidnapped and robbed money from a compatriot in Dubai's International City. The five suspects have been arrested, the Dubai Police said on Wednesday.
The incident was reported on June 20. The victim, M.A., told the police he was in his flat when the suspects barged in, brandishing swords and knives. They allegedly kidnapped him and took him to their flat nearby.
They ordered him to sit on a chair and allegedly threatened him with dire consequences if he did not hand over his money. He called up a friend and asked him to send him some cash. The assailants robbed about Dh88,000 from the victim.
The victim managed to escape and lodged a complaint at Al Rashidiyah police station. The police located the flat and raided it. One of the suspects resisted the arrest "fiercely", but the police overpowered him. Four others were later arrested.
The police recovered electroshock weapons from the flat.
"The suspects were using the flat as a prostitution den," said a senior police official. After the victim identified the suspects, they were referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
