The underage driver could not control the vehicle as he tried to enter a residential area from the three-lane road at 60kmph. The car ploughed onto the median, uprooted the lamp post and rammed into the boundary wall of a house, said Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Director of the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police.
The accident happened around 7.30pm. “The teenager who did not have a driving licence was driving at 60kmph on a three-lane internal road. The boy tried to turn the car, which was in the middle lane, to the right for entering a street leading to a residential area. Because of the speed at which he was driving on a road not designed for that speed, he couldn’t control the vehicle,” he said.
The boy suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital but died soon after.
