An American managed to escape, while a Colombian was arrested by the Dubai Police for stealing cash and jewellery worth millions of dirhams in various parts of Dubai.
According to the police, the duo came to the UAE on visit visas to specifically rob villas.
On July 7, the police were notified about a theft in the Mirdif area. A Canadian complainant told the police he left his villa in the morning to go to Ras Al Khaimah. When he returned, he found that thieves broke open his lockers and made away with Dh500,000 in cash and jewellery worth Dh350,000. Passports and other documents were also missing, he said.
Police investigations revealed that the robbers had scaled the villa's wall to enter it.
During the course of investigation, the police identified American K.F. and Colombian J.D. as the thieves and raided their apartment in Al Nahda. The police arrested J.D. and recovered the stolen items from the flat.
During interrogation, J.D. reportedly confessed that he and K.F. came from Oman on a visit visa. They then rented a car and carried out the thefts.
K.F. reportedly managed to escape to Oman.
