A huge fire broke out on Monday in part of The Gold Centre, Sharjah, damaging over three shops. No casualties have been reported as the centre was closed for Eid. Police believe the fire may be caused by short circuits in one of the shops.

The police received information about the fire at about 12pm and immediately dispatched fire fighters who reached the site in less than five minutes. A top official at the Sharjah Civil Defence said fire fighters managed to control the fire in 15 minutes and succeeded in containing it and from spreading and reaching the nearby petrol station.

Cooling operations took about three hours and the site has been handed over to forensic fire experts to exactly determine the cause of the fire and estimate the loss. — afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
